בר שבע שנין יואש כד מלך וארבעין שנין מלך בירושלם ושום אמיה צביה מבאר שבע:
shbe mbar tsbyh amyh wshwm byrwshlm mlk shnyn warbeyn mlk kd ywash shnyn shbe br
Joash was seven years old when he began to reign, and he reigned forty years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Zibiah, of Beersheba.

ועבד יואש דכשר בעיני יי כל יומיא דיהוידע כהנא:
khna dyhwyde ywmya kl yy beyny dkshr ywash webd
Joash did that which was right in Yahweh’s eyes all the days of Jehoiada the priest.

ונסיב ליה יהוידע נשין תרתין ואוליד בנין ובנן:
wbnn bnyn wawlyd thrthyn nshyn yhwyde lyh wnsyb
Jehoiada took for him two wives, and he became the father of sons and daughters.

והוה מן בתר כדין הוה עם לביה דיואש לחדתא ית בית מקדשא דיי:
dyy mqdsha byth yth lkhdtha dywash lbyh em hwh kdyn bthr mn whwh
After this, Joash intended to restore Yahweh’s house.

וכנש ית כהניא וליואי ואמר להון פוקו לקרוי יהודה וכנושו מן כל ישראל כספא לתקפא ית בית מקדשא דיי אלהכון מסת שנה בשנה ואתון תסרהבון למללא ולא סרהיבו ליואי:
lyway srhybw wla lmlla thsrhbwn wathwn bshnh shnh msth alhkwn dyy mqdsha byth yth lthqpa kspa yshral kl mn wknwshw yhwdh lqrwy pwqw lhwn wamr wlyway khnya yth wknsh
He gathered together the priests and the Levites, and said to them, “Go out to the cities of Judah, and gather money to repair the house of your God from all Israel from year to year. See that you expedite this matter.” However the Levites didn’t do it right away.

וקרא מלכא ליהוידע אמרכלא די ממנא על רישא ואמר ליה מא דין לא תבעתא על ליואי לאיתאה מיהודה ומירושלם ית משכן זמנא דמשה עבדא דיי וקהלא דישראל עם משכנא דסהדותא:
dshdwtha mshkna em dyshral wqhla dyy ebda dmshh zmna mshkn yth wmyrwshlm myhwdh laythah lyway el thbetha la dyn ma lyh wamr rysha el mmna dy amrkla lyhwyde mlka wqra
The king called for Jehoiada the chief, and said to him, “Why haven’t you required of the Levites to bring in the tax of Moses the servant of Yahweh, and of the assembly of Israel, out of Judah and out of Jerusalem, for the Tent of the Testimony?”

ארום עתליהו חיבתא ובנהא תרעו ית בית מקדשא דיי ואוף ית קדשי בית מקדשא דיי עבדו לטעותא:
lTewtha ebdw dyy mqdsha byth qdshy yth wawp dyy mqdsha byth yth threw wbnha khybtha ethlyhw arwm
For the sons of Athaliah, that wicked woman, had broken up God’s house; and they also gave all the dedicated things of Yahweh’s house to the Baals.

ואמר מלכא ועבדו ארונא חד ושויוהי בתרע בית מקדשא מן לבר:
lbr mn mqdsha byth bthre wshwywhy khd arwna webdw mlka wamr
So the king commanded, and they made a chest, and set it outside at the gate of Yahweh’s house.

ואעברו כרוז ביהודה ובירושלם לאיתאה קדם יי משכן זמנא דמשה עבדא דיי די עבד לכפרא על בני ישראל במדברא:
bmdbra yshral bny el lkpra ebd dy dyy ebda dmshh zmna mshkn yy qdm laythah wbyrwshlm byhwdh krwz waebrw
They made a proclamation through Judah and Jerusalem, to bring in for Yahweh the tax that Moses the servant of God laid on Israel in the wilderness.

וחדו כל רברביא וכל עמא ואיתיאו נדבתא ורמו בארונא עד לית סוף:
swp lyth ed barwna wrmw ndbtha waythyaw ema wkl rbrbya kl wkhdw
All the princes and all the people rejoiced, and brought in, and cast into the chest, until they had filled it.

והוה בעדן דאיתיאו ית ארונא למנון מלכא בידא דליואי וכד חמון ארום סגא כספא בארונא אתא לבלרא דמלכא וסגן כהנא די ממנא לרישא ורוקנון ית ארונא ונטלוהי ואתיבו יתיה לאתריה הכדין עבדו יומא ביומא וכנשו כספא לסוגי:
lswgy kspa wknshw bywma ywma ebdw hkdyn lathryh ythyh wathybw wnTlwhy arwna yth wrwqnwn lrysha mmna dy khna wsgn dmlka lblra atha barwna kspa sga arwm khmwn wkd dlyway byda mlka lmnwn arwna yth daythyaw bedn whwh
Whenever the chest was brought to the king’s officers by the hand of the Levites, and when they saw that there was much money, the king’s scribe and the chief priest’s officer came and emptied the chest, and took it, and carried it to its place again. Thus they did day by day, and gathered money in abundance.

ויהב יתיה מלכא ויהוידע לעבדי עבידת פולחן בית מקדשא דיי והוון אגרין מפסלין ונגרין לחדתא בית מקדשא דיי ואוף לנגרי פרזלא ונחשא לתקפא ית בית מקדשא דיי:
dyy mqdsha byth yth lthqpa wnkhsha przla lngry wawp dyy mqdsha byth lkhdtha wngryn mpslyn agryn whwwn dyy mqdsha byth pwlkhn ebydth lebdy wyhwyde mlka ythyh wyhb
The king and Jehoiada gave it to those who did the work of the service of Yahweh’s house. They hired masons and carpenters to restore Yahweh’s house, and also those who worked iron and bronze to repair Yahweh’s house.

ועבדו עבדי עבידתא וסליקת ארכא לעבידתא בידיהון ואקימו ית בית מקדשא דיי על תקוניה ותקפוהי:
wthqpwhy thqwnyh el dyy mqdsha byth yth waqymw bydyhwn lebydtha arka wslyqth ebydtha ebdy webdw
So the workmen worked, and the work of repairing went forward in their hands. They set up God’s house as it was designed, and strengthened it.

וכד שציאו איתיאו קדם מלכא ויהוידע ית שאר כספא ועבדו מניא לבית מקדשא דיי מאני שמושא ומגסיא ובזכיא ומאני דהבא וכספא והוו מסקין עלותא בבית מקדשא דיי תדירא כל יומי יהוידע:
yhwyde ywmy kl thdyra dyy mqdsha bbyth elwtha msqyn whww wkspa dhba wmany wbzkya wmgsya shmwsha many dyy mqdsha lbyth mnya webdw kspa shar yth wyhwyde mlka qdm aythyaw shtsyaw wkd
When they had finished, they brought the rest of the money before the king and Jehoiada, from which were made vessels for Yahweh’s house, even vessels with which to minister and to offer, including spoons and vessels of gold and silver. They offered burnt offerings in Yahweh’s house continually all the days of Jehoiada.

וסיב יהוידע ושבע יומין ומית בר מאה ותלתין שנין הוה כד מית:
myth kd hwh shnyn wthlthyn mah br wmyth ywmyn wshbe yhwyde wsyb
But Jehoiada grew old and was full of days, and he died. He was one hundred thirty years old when he died.

וקברו יתיה בקרתיה דדוד עם מלכיא ארום עבד מצותא בישראל ועם מימרא דיי ובית מקדשא:
mqdsha wbyth dyy mymra wem byshral mtswtha ebd arwm mlkya em ddwd bqrthyh ythyh wqbrw
They buried him in David’s city among the kings, because he had done good in Israel, and toward God and his house.

ובתר דמית יהוידע אתו רברבי יהודה וסגידו למלכא יואש ואטעיאהי בכין קביל מלכא מנהון טעותהון:
Tewthhwn mnhwn mlka qbyl bkyn waTeyahy ywash lmlka wsgydw yhwdh rbrby athw yhwyde dmyth wbthr
Now after the death of Jehoiada, the princes of Judah came and bowed down to the king. Then the king listened to them.

ושבקו ית בית מקדשא דיי אלהא דאבהתהון ופלחו ית אשרתא וית טעותא והוה רגז על אנש יהודה וירושלם מטול סרחנותהון דא:
da srkhnwthhwn mTwl wyrwshlm yhwdh ansh el rgz whwh Tewtha wyth ashrtha yth wplkhw dabhthhwn alha dyy mqdsha byth yth wshbqw
They abandoned the house of Yahweh, the God of their fathers, and served the Asherah poles and the idols, so wrath came on Judah and Jerusalem for this their guiltiness.

ושדר בהון נביאיא לאתבותהון לפולחנא דיי ואסהידו בהון ולא אצתו:
atsthw wla bhwn washydw dyy lpwlkhna lathbwthhwn nbyaya bhwn wshdr
Yet he sent prophets to them to bring them again to Yahweh, and they testified against them; but they would not listen.

ורוח נבואה מן קדם יי שרת על זכריה בר יהוידע כהנא כד חמא ית סרחנות מלכא ועמא דמסקין קטורת לפסלא בבית מקדשא דיי על מדבחא ביומא דכפוריא ומבטלין כהניא דיי מלמעבד עלותא ונכסתא וקרבן יומא ומוספיא היכמה דכתיב בספר אוריתא דמשה וקם מעל לעמא ואמר להון כדנן אמר יי למה אתון עברין פקודיא דיי ולא תצלחון ארום שבקתון ית פולחנא דיי וישבוק יתכון:
ythkwn wyshbwq dyy pwlkhna yth shbqthwn arwm thtslkhwn wla dyy pqwdya ebryn athwn lmh yy amr kdnn lhwn wamr lema mel wqm dmshh awrytha bspr dkthyb hykmh wmwspya ywma wqrbn wnkstha elwtha mlmebd dyy khnya wmbTlyn dkpwrya bywma mdbkha el dyy mqdsha bbyth lpsla qTwrth dmsqyn wema mlka srkhnwth yth khma kd khna yhwyde br zkryh el shrth yy qdm mn nbwah wrwkh
The Spirit of God came on Zechariah the son of Jehoiada the priest; and he stood above the people, and said to them, “God says, ‘Why do you disobey Yahweh’s commandments, so that you can’t prosper? Because you have forsaken Yahweh, he has also forsaken you.’”

ומרדו עלוהי ואטליותיה באבנין הי כתפקידתא דמלכא בדרת בית מקדשא דיי:
dyy mqdsha byth bdrth dmlka kthpqydtha hy babnyn waTlywthyh elwhy wmrdw
They conspired against him, and stoned him with stones at the commandment of the king in the court of Yahweh’s house.

ולא זכר יואש מלכא ית חסדא די עבד יהוידע אבוי עמיה וקטל ית בריה וכד מטא לממת אמר יתגלי קדם יי ויתפרע ויתבע:
wythbe wythpre yy qdm ythgly amr lmmth mTa wkd bryh yth wqTl emyh abwy yhwyde ebd dy khsda yth mlka ywash zkr wla
Thus Joash the king didn’t remember the kindness which Jehoiada his father had done to him, but killed his son. When he died, he said, “May Yahweh look at it, and repay it.”

והוה לסופא דשתא סליקו עלוהי חילותא ארמאי ואתו ליהודה ולירושלם וקטלו ית כל רבני עמא מן עמא וכל עדאיהון שדרו למלכא דרמשק:
drmshq lmlka shdrw edayhwn wkl ema mn ema rbny kl yth wqTlw wlyrwshlm lyhwdh wathw armay khylwtha elwhy slyqw dshtha lswpa whwh
At the end of the year, the army of the Syrians came up against him. They came to Judah and Jerusalem, and destroyed all the princes of the people from among the people, and sent all their plunder to the king of Damascus.

ארום בצבחר גוברין אתו חילות ארמאי ויי מסר בידיהון חילא לסוגי לחדא ארום שבקו ית דחלתא דיי אלהא דאבהתהון ועם יואש עבדו דינין:
dynyn ebdw ywash wem dabhthhwn alha dyy dkhltha yth shbqw arwm lkhda lswgy khyla bydyhwn msr wyy armay khylwth athw gwbryn btsbkhr arwm
For the army of the Syrians came with a small company of men; and Yahweh delivered a very great army into their hand, because they had forsaken Yahweh, the God of their fathers. So they executed judgment on Joash.

ובמיזלהון מן לותיה ארום שבקו יתיה במרעין בישין סגיאין מרדו עלוהי עבדוהי מן בגלל לאתפרעא דמי בני יהוידע כהנא וקטלוהי על ערסיה ומית וקברוהי בקרתא דדוד ולא קברוהי בקברי מלכיא:
mlkya bqbry qbrwhy wla ddwd bqrtha wqbrwhy wmyth ersyh el wqTlwhy khna yhwyde bny dmy lathprea bgll mn ebdwhy elwhy mrdw sgyayn byshyn bmreyn ythyh shbqw arwm lwthyh mn wbmyzlhwn
When they had departed from him (for they left him seriously wounded), his own servants conspired against him for the blood of the sons of Jehoiada the priest, and killed him on his bed, and he died. They buried him in David’s city, but they didn’t bury him in the tombs of the kings.

ואלין די מרדו עלוהי זבד בר שמעת עמוניתא ויהוזבד בר שמרית מואביתא:
mwabytha shmryth br wyhwzbd emwnytha shmeth br zbd elwhy mrdw dy walyn
These are those who conspired against him: Zabad the son of Shimeath the Ammonitess and Jehozabad the son of Shimrith the Moabitess.

ובנוי דמן רמו מסקין מסק על דבית יהודה כד הוה מסד בית מקדשא דיי בר ממימר מלכא וכהניא ואתקטלו בקרבא מטול חובי אבוהון והאנון כתיבין על פתשגן ספר מלכיא ומליך אמציהו בריה באתרוהי:
bathrwhy bryh amtsyhw wmlyk mlkya spr pthshgn el kthybyn whanwn abwhwn khwby mTwl bqrba wathqTlw wkhnya mlka mmymr br dyy mqdsha byth msd hwh kd yhwdh dbyth el msq msqyn rmw dmn wbnwy
Now concerning his sons, the greatness of the burdens laid on him, and the rebuilding of God’s house, behold, they are written in the commentary of the book of the kings. Amaziah his son reigned in his place.
